Meeting the Mayor of Barcelona to strengthen the impact economy

Today, we held a meeting with the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, with the aim of reaffirming Barcelona’s commitment to the impact economy as a transformative force for a more sustainable and just future.

The meeting took place just before two major events that position Barcelona as a leading hub for the impact economy: the Ship2B Impact Forum and Norrsken’s Impact Week, both of which will be held next week and will reinforce Barcelona’s role as a global capital for impact.

When we founded Ship2B, the impact sector was a desert, but after 15 years, there’s now a strong ecosystem of actors in the city, and Barcelona has the potential to become the capital of the impact economy in Southern Europe”, shared Xavi Pont during the meeting.

The meeting was led by Ship2B in collaboration with Norrsken, and was also attended by Jordi Valls, Deputy Mayor for Economy, Finance, Economic Promotion, and Tourism, as well as several key entities from the impact ecosystem: Impact Hub, Miura Partners, Suma Capital, Hearst, B-Corp, Up Social, Inclimo, Qida, SpainNAB, IESE, and 011h.

Mayor Jaume Collboni, together with Jordi Valls, expressed their commitment to continuing the push for funds to invest in venture capital companies that prioritise strategic sectors such as the digital economy, creative industries, the green and sustainable economy, health, and the care economy. This approach positions Barcelona not only as a leader in technological innovation but as a city dedicated to an economy that, alongside financial gain, commits to social welfare and environmental protection.

At Ship2B Ventures, we emphasise the importance of this institutional support and the need to build a robust ecosystem with key actors to further drive impactful solutions that address social and environmental challenges at their root.
